Citadel's Limited Edition Dragon Tanto is a distinctive and aesthetically stunning piece completely handmade and limited to 100 units. It is signed by the smith on the sword's tang along with the sword number, and accompanied by a matching certificate.
The shobu zukuri (ridge line runs from the guard till the tip, without the presence of yokote and kissaki) blade is handforged from DNH7 high carbon steel, differentially hardened, and hand polished using traditional stones and powders. This results in a resilient and durable blade with excellent edge retention. The heat treatment process also produces a striking gunome (waves) hamon that adds to the exquisiteness of the blade. Additionally, the bohi on the blade that lightens the tanto while improving its point of balance is unique as it extends into the habaki.
The pure iron fittings for this tanto including the tsuba, fuchi, and kashira is meticulously handcrafted, making Citadel one of a handful of sword makers globally that still produces koshirae in this manner.
As expected of a high quality tanto, the tsuka is carved to fit each individual blade to provide a tight fit. It is then covered with samegawa and tightly wrapped with Japanese imported tsuka ito made of dark blue silk. Last but not least, the saya is a work of art on its own, painstakingly hand carved to fit the tanto and wholly wrapped in ray skin.
This limited edition design is also available as a katana. Paired together, both would make a great daisho set.
