This Practical Pro Katana from Hanwei focuses on affordability and function. Designed for cutting practice on heavy targets, the full tang blade is forged from 1566 high carbon steel, containing substantial manganese to create a largely even hardened microstructure after tempering. Differentially tempered, clay tempered, and finely polished, this blade is tough, durable, holds an excellent edge, and features a striking midareba hamon.
This katana is equipped with a maru gata (round) Kuruma tsuba, which represents the Wheel of Dharma, a Buddhist concept of the Noble Eightfold Path. This teaching encourages followers to have the correct view or understanding, intention, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration.
The full tang blade is then double pegged to the tsuka to ensure its sturdiness. The tsuka is then covered with white same and wrapped with synthetic black leather tsuka ito to give it a comfortable and secure grip. The blade is then sheathed in a deep black lacquered saya with black cotton sageo.
