Hanwei Wakizashi Premium Purple Tonbo

Hanwei's Tonbo Wakizashi is an alluring piece with a blade hand forged and folded from K120C powder steel, a highly homogenous material with even carbon distribution. After differential heat treatment and clay tempering, the blade has properties similar to 1095 high carbon steel but with improved strength, durability, and edge retention. This results in a beautiful and prominent hamon that adds to the overall aesthetics of the sword. This blade features a chu-kissaki and bohi that helps to decrease the overall weight of the sword and improve its point of balance.

Aptly named, this wakizashi is equipped with an intricate maru gata (round) tsuba cast in stainless steel and patina'd like blackened iron with dragonflies elaborately detailed in gold and bronze, making the exquisite scene one of the highlights of the sword. The tonbo or dragonfly is considered a symbol of the Japanese samurai as they are thought to be swift, fearless, and courageous, bringing warriors both strength and protection.

Other high quality koshirae include the fuchi and kashira that carries the same theme, detailed in bronze and brass. Meanwhile, the habaki is a one-piece brass construction and the gold colored menuki features two sparrows. The tsuka for this wakizashi is first covered with white same, accentuating the tight tsukamaki using premium purple Japanese cotton tsuka ito. In line with the design, the wakizashi is completed with a deep black lacquered saya featuring dragonflies detailed in gold color. The scabbard's fittings such as the koiguchi, kojiri, and kurigata are made of polished horn.
