Oda Nobunaga was a government official and Japanese warrior, known for overthrowing the Ashikaga shogunate. This ended the feudal wars and in turn, unified half the provinces in Japan under his rule. His actions and decisions resulted in a stable government that eventually led to the unification of Japan, even after his death.
Paying tribute to this legendary figure, Hanwei's Oda Nobunaga Katana is a visually striking and elegant piece. With a blade forged from T10 tool steel, this alloy has characteristics similar to 1095. However, the addition of silicon and clay tempering process results in a blade that is stronger and has improved edge retention. A tempered T10 blade also displays a vibrant hamon, as seen in this blade. Besides the hamon, the blade also has a bohi that serves to reduce the overall weight of the sword while improving its point of balance, allowing for quicker and agile attacks.
As expected, Oda Nobunaga is depicted on the maru gata (round) tsuba to be carrying a sword on his shoulder with his right hand. Nobunaga's mon and gourd in his left hand are detailed in gold. Meanwhile, the other side of the tsuba shows two soldiers with yard subduing and enemy. In line with the theme, the fuchi is embossed with gold flintlock and powder bag, a nod to Nobunaga's fondness for tanegashima firearms.
Contrasting with the silver and gold details on the koshirae is the tsuka covered in black same held in place with green Japanese cotton tsuka ito. Matching the tsuka is a deep green lacquered saya fitted with buffalo horn kojiri and kurigata. The black cotton sageo completes the design, making this masterpiece a must have in Hanwei's Generals Series.
This katana is a great option for a display stand, matching Hanwei's Oda Nobunaga Kabuto (AH2083).
