PRODUCT DETAILS

The Mortuary Hilt Sword, replicated from an original in the esteemed collection of the Royal Armouries in England, represents a timeless example of a cavalry or dragoon officer's sword from the 17th-century English Civil War era. Named after King Charles I, whose memory it honors following his execution in 1649, this sword showcases a steel basket adorned with intricate scrolled foliage, accompanied by an engraved head of Charles I on the pommel. The double-edged blade features a lozenge section and partial fullers, bearing the swordmaker's mark "1414," whose origin remains a mystery.

The leather-wrapped handle terminates with silver wire "Turks Head" knots. True to the original, this sword offers impeccable balance. This version boasts an antiqued finish, with the hilt expertly crafted from stainless steel for low maintenance and enhanced durability, adorned with a museum-quality patina. The high-carbon blade also features a subtle "antiqued" appearance for added authenticity.

Both the hilt's grip and the scabbard are covered in leather. For the bright-finished version of this sword, refer to SH2004.
