9260 Steel Nodachi

The odachi or nodachi is a term that refers to the extra long samurai sword used during the Nanbokucho Period. This formidable weapon was once used by foot soldiers against cavalry troops. However, during the Momoyama period, many of the older nodachi blades were reshaped into katana swords.

This 9260 Steel Nodachi from Shadow Dancer is a striking and beautiful piece with a shinogi zukuri blade forged from 9260 steel, oil quenched, and features a bohi to reduce the overall weight of the sword while improving its point of balance. The blade is secured to the handle with one mekugi.

It is equipped with a brass tsuba, fuchi, kashira, menuki, and habaki, along with copper seppa. The Haichi style tsuka is covered in white genuine samegawa and wrapped with artificial red silk ito. It is then sheathed in an oil lacquered saya mounted with brass shitodome that helps to prevent the thick red sageo from fraying.
