Beginner Iaito（Blunt Sword, Training Sword, Not Sharp)

An iaito sword is designed for iaido, replicating real swords but with an unsharpened blade so practitioners can hone their techniques safely. Worn the same way as a katana, it also features the traditional fittings of a Japanese sword.

This beginner iaito from Shadow Dancer has a shinogi zukuri (curved blade with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) blade forged from alloy steel. Since it is not made for combat and impact, it is not heat treated and therefore features an artificial suguha (straight) hamon. However, since it is used in practice, it does feature a bohi to reduce the overall weight of the sword and improving its point of balance. The blade is secured to the tsuka with a mekugi.

It is equipped with an iron tsuba; blackened brass fuchi, kashira, menuki; along with brass seppa and habaki. This iaito has a Haichi style tsuka covered in white samegawa held in place by kapok ito from Japan. This unsharpened blade is sheathed in a black saya with horn koiguchi, kurigata, and kojiri, while the brass shitodome prevents the Japanese imported artificial silk sageo from fraying.
