Black&Red Oil Quenched Wakizashi Blade

The Japanese Wakizashi, a short sword, was a secondary weapon used by the legendary Samurai warriors when the longer Katana or Tachi proved insufficient. This replica, a Damascus Steel Wakizashi, has been folded 13 times, resulting in over 8000 visible blade layers. The steel underwent heat treatment and oil quenching to achieve optimal hardness levels.

The sword features a red/black motif; even the blade has been specially treated to exhibit a dark red hue. The full tang blade, double pegged with a bohi (groove), produces a tachikaze (sound of an ideal swing) when slashing. The handle consists of a ray skin and silk tsuka-maki, whilst the scabbard is protective wood with a shiny gloss. The fittings, which can be disassembled, are a combination of iron, brass, and copper.
