Bonji Sanmai Tamahagane Katana

This Bonji Sanmai Tamahagane Katana from Shadow Dancer is a unique masterpiece with a shinogi zukuri (curved blade with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) blade forged from tamahagane, differentially hardened, clay tempered, and Sashikomi polished to reveal a striking gunome (waves) hamon. Here, the sanmai (three layer) construction refers to how the inner core of the blade has two outer jackets to increase the blade's durability. The blade is then secured to the tsuka with a mekugi.

This katana is equipped with an iron maru gata (round) tsuba, copper seppa, and two piece habaki. As its name implies, the blackened brass fuchi and kashira features Sanskrit characters (Bonji). The handmade Haichi style tsuka is covered in white samegawa and wrapped with brown silk ito. Meanwhile, the handmade saya with horn kurigata, koiguchi, and kojiri has a brass shitodome to prevent the Japanese imported artificial silk sageo from fraying.
