The Japanese saber was first introduced in 1868 during the Meiji era for military use after the end of the samurai era, marking the influence of Western culture in Japan.

This stunning hand forged Nine Lions Japanese Saber by Hanbon Forge combines luxury and elegance. Made from 1095 folded high carbon steel and differentially hardened, this blade holds a keen and sharp edge well despite regular use, recommended for experienced practitioners. The tempering process also results in a beautiful midareba (irregular) hamon and hada (grain) that is made even more prominent through hazy polishing, enhancing the overall aesthetics of the sword.

Two bamboo pegs secure the full tang blade to the exquisite and elaborate hilt fitted with high quality brass lion fittings, habaki, and seppa. Completing the overall design is the scabbard fully wrapped with black ray skin. As the saber's name implies, the scabbard showcases nine brass lions.
