Knights Sword – Atrim Design Type XVII

This Oakeshott Type XVIII Knight's Sword by Kingston Arms is the first in a series of swords designed by Angus Trim. Swords in the Oakeshott Type XVIII category are one of the most popular and effective at cutting and thrusting opponents with plate and chainmail armor. As implied by its name, this sword was used by the European Knights during the late Middle Ages, around the early 15th to 16th centuries. These swords often have a double edged blade with a cruciform cross guard.

Staying true to 15th century designs, this sword features a stiff blade, acute point, and the classic diamond cross section. Capable of quick movements and accurate control, this allows it to be used to find small chinks and exposed gaps in armor joints. Additionally, Type XVIII swords have a slow tapering curve to its point, making it efficient for cutting unarmored opponents.

In collaboration with Gus who determined the best weight, balance, taper, and harmonics for the sword, Kingston Arms experimented with the different materials and fit before deciding on a hand forged full tang blade from mono tempered 9260 spring steel, flat ground with a beautiful satin finish. 9260 steel is highly favored by many experts due to its excellent shock resistance and spring-like flexibility.

Meanwhile, the fittings on this sword are made from high quality stainless steel to match Gus's design. The solid wood core handle is cord wrapped for strength with a textured leather overwrap. Like the handle, the scabbard also has a solid wood core and features a stainless steel shape and stitched leather wrap.

Note that changing the fittings on this sword should be done carefully to preserve its handling characteristics, especially in terms of weight, overall size, and shape.
