Wakizashi Cherry Blossoms Koshirae (Naginata Blade Shape)

This visually striking wakizashi from Z-Sey has a blade forged from tamahagane steel and features a naginata bohi (miniature groove) with soe bi / kaki nagashi (secondary narrow groove that tapers to a pointed end). Its blade can be referred to as a Naginata blade because this style was formed by smelting down and shortening long Naginata polearms during the peaceful Edo Period.

Differentially hardened and clay tempered, the blade is Sashikomi Grade A polished to reveal a suguha (straight) hamon (temper line).

The wakizashi comes with beautiful koshirae (mountings) that has cherry blossom motifs such as the gold plated brass mokko gata (lobed) tsuba (guard), fuchi (hilt collar), kashira (pommel cap), and menuki (decorative ornament). It also has copper seppa (washer) and Yujo style habaki (blade collar).

The overall look of this wakizashi is complemented by its handmade Haichi style tsuka (handle) covered in white large emperor node same (rayskin) and wrapped in brown silk ito (handle wrap) from Japan. It comes sheathed in a red oil lacquered saya (scabbard) with horn koiguchi (mouth of scabbard), kurigata (knob for carrying cord), and kojiri (scabbard end cap). The brass shitodome (mounting on kurigata opening) prevents the fraying of the brown silk sageo (carrying cord) from Japan.
