Daisho T10 Steel Sword Orchid

The term "daisho" is used to refer to a set of swords that usually consisted of the katana and wakizashi. Ideally with similar mountings, these blades are suited for practical, formal, or ceremonial use. In feudal Japan, the wearing of daisho was restricted to only those of the samurai class, making it an important status symbol of the samurai.

This Orchid (蘭花) Daisho full tang blades are forged from T10 folded steel, differentially hardened, traditionally clay tempered, and mirror polished by hand to bring out the hada (folded grains) and midare (irregular) hamon. Both the Katana and Wakizashi are made with the same method and designed to be a set.

Equipped with solid brass koshirae (fittings) that have the orchid motif, the tsuka (handle) is covered with same (rayskin) and wrapped with brown ito (handle wrap) made from artificial silk. These durable and functional blades come sheathed in saya (scabbards) that are fully wrapped in rayskin while the scabbard fittings (koiguchi - mouth of saya, kurigata - knob for carrying cord, kojiri - scabbard end cap) are made of buffalo horn.
