Hanwei Katana Orchid Butterfly Inlay

Paul Chen / Hanwei's Orchid Katana is a beautiful piece with a relatively light full tang blade forged from K120C steel, a powdered high carbon steel that is incredibly resistant to wear and tear. Produced in Japan under SSAB's license, the exceptional distribution of carbon ensures reliable performance and great edge retention. The blade also features a chu kissaki.

The katana is equipped with a blackened iron tsuba featuring an orchid and butterfly inlaid with silver, brass, and copper. This motif is also seen in the fuchi and kashira which are made from bronzed iron with silver and gold detailing. The habaki is a one-piece brass construction.

Next, the wooden tsuka is covered with white samegawa and wrapped with black cotton ito. The overall design of the sword is then completed with a deep blue lacquered saya fitted with buffalo horn koiguchi and kurigata.
