Hanwei Katana Practical Special Nimble Blade

Hanwei's Practical Special Katana is a subtly modified version of the Practical Katana. This version was created to fulfill requests for a quicker and more agile sword while retaining the same affordable price. In this variant, the dimension of the blade has slightly changed wile the tsuba cutouts are enlarged. Despite weighing only 3oz (8.5 g) less, the handling difference is very noticeable, making it the standard for those who want a katana for hard or regular cutting but require a faster draw.

Like its predecessor, the blade of this katana is forged from 1566 high carbon steel containing manganese to give it a largely uniformed hardened microstructure after heat treatment and clay tempering. This results in a blade that is tough and holds its edge remarkably well. An added advantage is the beautiful midareba hamon that adds to the overall aesthetics of the sword.

Equipped with a maru gata (round or circular) tsuba, the design for this katana is kept plain, contributing to its simplicity and value. Other quality fittings include the fuchi, kashira, along with gold colored habaki, seppa, and menuki. The tsuka is covered in white same and wrapped tightly with black tsuka ito. To complete the katana, the blade comes sheathed in a black lacquered saya with black sageo.
