Sokueto Hondashi Wakizashi

The Sokueto Hondachi Maru Katana from Thaitsuki is a formidable yet elegant piece with an unokubi zukuri (cormorant's neck) blade with a single steel structure. Hand forged from 1095 high carbon steel, clay tempered, and water quenched, this results in a blade that has a sharp and keen edge with a hardness of 55 HRC while the body is more flexible at 40 HRC. The differential hardening process also produces a beautiful notare hamon that adds to the overall aesthetics of the blade, highly recommended for experienced cutting practitioners who wants a blade that holds up to sustained use.

This katana comes equipped with high quality fittings including the intricate yet simplistic tsuba along with silver seppa and hana (flower) habaki. Other fittings such as the brass fuchi kashira and silver menuki feature a shishi (lion or komainu) motif, known as protectors that bring prosperity and success. Two mekugi secures the blade's tang to the wooden rikko (hourglass) tsuka. It is then covered with genuine black same with tight hinerimaki using ivory silk tsuka ito. The overall design is completed with a black glossy saya fitted with buffalo horn kurigata, koiguchi, sayajiri, and ivory silk sageo.
