Hanwei Wakizashi Lion Dog Design

This Lion Dog Wakizashi is elegant, with a full tang blade forged from HWS-1S steel, a material exclusive to Hanwei. This high performance steel is made in Hanwei's new factory using high tech equipment, combining the careful selection of elements, processing procedure, and manipulation of the carbon content. The blade after differential treatment and clay tempering is known for its resilience and excellent edge retention. The process also results in a distinct and striking hamon that contributes to the aesthetics of the sword.

In line with the theme, this wakizashi is equipped with a blackened iron naga maru gata (oval) tsuba featuring a lion dog. This motif is also seen in the fuchi and kashira while the menuki has a golden peony. Meanwhile, the tsuka is covered with white same and tightly wrapped with black tsuka ito, giving its wielder a comfortable and secure grip. This sword comes sheathed in gloss lacquered black saya with a ribbed section at the koiguchi and kurigata. The rest of the scabbard is spatter lacquered, giving it an attractive appearance. The black premium sageo is made of hand woven cotton.

This wakizashi's design is also available as a katana, making it an option for collectors and practitioners to obtain the Daisho set.
